frivolity
Somehow, "I'm snowed in, can't make it to work" doesn't cut it when you only live five minutes' walk from the office!

Which is a pain. Because, OMG snow! How much did I want to have a lie in, then get up and play?! But in the end quite useful because what with the lack of people and phone calls today, I was super-productive. Perhaps the fear of being less than a month from Big Deadline helped a little, too, because for better or worse I am motivated mostly by The Fear. Starting to get it; time to get a shift on.

Other things that motivate me:

* Food. Currently scratching my head over how to best dispatch a joint of muntjak deer bought from Resourceful Gamekeeping Colleague

* Cats. As in, "Stop scratching that sofa, or I will have to come and accost you, you furry little bastards" (or, often, "Yes, I will get up and feed you if you leave my feet alone").

* iPhone. Sort of attached to me throughout the day, now. Tragically addictive...

* The prospect of a nice cup of tea. Which is what I'm off to pursue now :D

Ooh, do you have any recipe suggestions? I was thinking of doing a pot roast, but any recipes will be pounced upon :D

Well, it depends. What cut is it? If it's a thick roast-type cut, then I can give you the (approximate) recipe for a mouth-watering rolled roast- but the roast would need to be thick enough to butterfly, so that you can roll it. I miss making that...

I used to deal with venison a fair amount- one of my ex-boyfriends worked with a hunter, who would always provide us with meat. Generally, that mean a LEG, and I would spend half an afternoon butchering it, separating the cuts and packaging it for the freezer. Got to be pretty good at it, too! I miss having venison around. So yummy...

But anyhoo. I will warn you however, that the recipes I have are all ones I *recall* making. The wonderful game cookbook I once had still resides with the XBF, so... everything's an approximation. Though I'll do some online snooping, see if I can't suss out better specifics! But cut- need to know what you're dealing with!

That looks wonderful! I will definitely try it with the next joint! *drools*

It was a shoulder joint (I think), still on the bone. In the end, I slow cooked it on some root veg with a pint of stock and some herbs and seasoning. It just kind of melted off the bone :D

My colleague, J, tends to butcher everything himself too, so we get all sort of cuts. Next time I get hold of one, I'll remember to tap you up for more ideas! That rolled roast is definitely on the menu in the near future....
